Bowed Strings is a violin and cello studio in Woodlands, founded and taught by two sisters. What began as a home studio is now a warm storefront minutes from Marsiling MRT, where children, teenagers and adults learn at their own pace, with teachers who care about how they grow, not just what they play.
From a home studio to a Woodlands storefront.
Bowed Strings began at home, with two sisters, a violin and a cello, and a belief that students learn best when they feel known. Word travelled from neighbour to neighbour, and the little home studio grew into the Woodlands storefront it is today.
The sisters still lead the teaching. Xin Jie, known to her students as Ms Cheong, is a performing violinist with orchestra and concertmaster experience. Xin Ying leads the cello side of the studio, guiding students on posture, bow hold and tone from the very first lesson.
Around them is a small team of instructors, several conservatory-trained, chosen as much for warmth as for credentials, so every student is matched with the right teacher.

a.What age can my child start?
Private violin and cello lessons are for ages 9 to adult, and we run kids and teens violin group classes for younger beginners. Complete beginners of any age are welcome.
b.Do you offer a free trial lesson?
Yes. Come down for a free trial with no obligation, and beginners receive a complimentary Bowed Strings booklet. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange a time.
c.Do you teach pop and jazz, or classical only?
We teach classical, pop, jazz and improvisation. Improvisation and jazz work best from around Grade 3 and up, and we will guide you to the right path at your first lesson.
d.Do you prepare students for exams?
Yes. We coach students through ABRSM and Trinity graded exams and performances, with structured lesson plans and in-house chamber and group sessions.
